After the admissions which appear in the record of the Supreme Court, of the circumstances under which the withdrawal of the action for slander, Hayllar v. Eitel, occurred, is in my opinion dishonouring to the efficiency of the Public Service. I have moved His Excellency the Governor to convene a meeting of the Legislative Council, that may draw the attention of the Council to the subject with the least possible delay.
The meetings of the Legislative Council are held, as your Lordship is doubtless aware, at intervals of very uncertain duration, and, as I have received no reply to my communication of the 7th inst., addressed to the Acting Colonial Secretary, I deem it to be my duty to lay before your Lordship forthwith copies of the documentary Evidence which has come into my possession, in connexion with the Case, in which you...
